It's always a good time to get plugged into the exciting activities of the Tallahassee Builders Association.

 

Our major event this week is the Thursday (March 12) meeting of the Green Building Council. This luncheon/seminar - starting at 11:30 am at the Myers Park Community Room - will be sponsored by Donny's Heating and Airwith Donny Godwin presenting the program on Mechanical Ventilation and Maintaining Positive Indoor Air Quality. It's free to Green Building Council members and $20 for non-Council members. Controlled Mechanical Ventilation will be required on all new construction as a result of the blower door mandate in the upcoming code change.  There is much confusion about these new requirements. You'll also want to mark your calendar for the Thursday (March 19) General Membership Meeting set for 11:30 am at the Holiday Inn & Suites (I-10 and North Monroe). The program is entitled "Federal, State, and Issues Impacting the Home Building Industry" and covers such topics as housing finance reform, tax reform, lien law, springs/water quality proposals, unlicensed activity, funding of affordable housing, the PACE program, and local transportation improvement projects. TBA is gearing up for its annual Parade of Homes™ on the weekends of May 9-10 and 16-17, 2015.  Once again this year, our Parade of Homes™Committee is working hard under the leadership of a respected member of our home building industry.  Larry Wayne Strickland, CIP, CAPS, of Capital City Builders is the 2015 Parade Chairman, following in the footsteps of previous outstanding chairs such as Mark Worley, CIP, CAPS, GMB, of Worley Construction; Thomas Asbury, Jr., of Premier Fine Homes; and Doug Barton, CIP, CAPS, of Barton Construction.  Larry is a Senior Officer of TBA, a past Parade of Homes™ Award winner, a consistent star in the Remodelers Showcase Awards, and the Florida Home Builders Association's 2012 Remodeler of the Year. The Parade Committee has won the support on many generous sponsors, including Platinum-level sponsorsCapital City Bank, City of Tallahassee Natural Gas Utility, and Hancock Bank.

 

If you need to take the EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Refresher Class, it's being offered by AMRC in Tallahassee on March 30, 2015. The fee for the 4-hour class is $145 and the certification is valid for 5 years. It also includes 4 hours of Florida Contractor Continuing Education Units (CEUs), including the 1-hour Safety requirement.
