The Tallahassee Builders Association congratulates Tom and Susan Vieth of Vieth Construction for being selected to build TBA's 2015 Showcase Home, which will be on display the weekend of December 12-13 at theCenterville Conservation community. Like last year's home, built by Premier Fine Homes in Buckhead, it will be a fund-raiser for TBA andToys for Tots, thanks to the generous donations of products, services, and toys by TBA members. You'll be hearing a lot more about this exciting project.
An All-Star lineup of the Tallahassee area's best builders is ready to showcase their skills in TBA's 2015 Parade of Homes set for the weekends of May 9-10 and 16-17. This year's Parade builders, in alphabetical order, are Adams Quality Homes, AD Homes, Ertl Homes, Foundation Homes, Kenley Design & Construction, Panhandle Building Services, Parrish Group, Persica Homes, Pitman's Custom Construction, Powerhouse Construction, Premier Fine Homes, Sneed Construction, and Vieth Construction. The homes range in price from Premier's$182,940 home in Summerlake to Ertl's $2 million showcase in Tuscan Hill. In all, 17 Tallahassee-area communities will be represented with Centerville Conservation having two entries, one by 2014 Best of Show winner Foundation Homes and one by Vieth Construction. Parade magazines, published by Homes & Land, will be available at Publix Stores on April 25, according to Parade of Homes Committee Chair Larry Wayne Strickland of Capital City Builders. Platinum Sponsors for the Parade are Capital City Bank, City of Tallahassee Natural Gas Utility, and Hancock Bank.
TBA is super-proud that one of its members - Kessler Construction - has teamed with Rogers Developments to create the first and only residential community in Leon County where all the newly-built homes will be certified to meet stringent Green Buildingstandards for energy-efficiency and sustainability. The official ground-breaking of the first model home in the Southern Oaks development was held last week. Mark Kessler andMike Rogers, principals of the co-developing companies, bring a combined 40-plus years of Green building experience to the project where the custom homes - which will range from $400,000 to $700,000 - will each be certified to standards set by the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC).
Participants in the ground-breaking for Tallahassee's first all-Green residential community at Southern Oaks are, left to right, Suzanne Cook of the Florida Green Building Coalition, Vicki O'Neil of the City of Tallahassee Natural Gas Utility, developer Mike Rogers, builder Mark Kessler, Leon County Commissioners John Dailey and Bryan Desloge, Wes Singletary of the Big Bend Habitat for Humanity, and Betsy Gray of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.

You can sign up to sponsor or enter a boat or kayak by using the form under TBA Events attallyba.com. Members of the TBA Remodelers Council heard an excellent program last week on the opportunities available in serving those individuals and families who want to age in place in their existing homes. Occupational therapist Sharon Hennigan, CAPS (left in photo) with Janay Austin of AARP Florida, was the speaker and she'll be working with TBA in the future to create an event where people who are making decisions about aging-in-place will be linked to professional remodelers. The next Remodelers Council meeting is Wednesday, April 29, at 11:30 am, atOld Town Café and is sponsored by Frank Skubel and our friends at Kitchen Tune-Up.
