News from Your Tallahassee Builders Association
March 3, 2015
The Tallahassee Builders Association's new Builders Care program is off and running under the leadership of Chair Vicki O'Neil of the City of Tallahassee Natural Gas Utility. The Committee held an organizational meeting on February 26, 2015 and is beginning to identify small construction projects for those in need in our community.

TBA Members... Please volunteer to work one Saturday morning in 2015 on a Builders Care project by emailing Vicki at[email protected].

Joining Vicki at the organizational meeting were TBA President Alan Weekley, TBA Past President Mark Worley, TBA Senior Officer Bill Kimberl, longtime TBA Board member H.R. "Sonny" Phillips, and Scott Eppes of the Eppes Decorating Center.

If you missed attending TBA's recent Florida Construction Lien Lawseminar, you'll be glad to know that this important information - presented by Tallahassee attorneys Fred Dudley and Steve Sellers

- is available by clicking here...Affiliated with the Dudley, Sellers & Healy, P.L. law firm, Dudley and Sellers covered a number of vital topics including what it means to be in privity with the owner, the importance of timely notices to owners, how liens get defeated in court, and good record-keeping practices. The posted information includes a helpful chart outlining various lien rights of contractors, suppliers and subcontractors.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, March 12, 2015 when TBA's Green Building Council meeting will be sponsored by Donny's Heating and Airwith Donny Godwin presenting the program on Mechanical Ventilation and Maintaining Positive Indoor Air Quality. The event is a luncheon beginning at 11:30 am at the Myers Park Community Room. It's free to Green Building Council members and $20 for non-Council members. Controlled Mechanical Ventilation will be required on all new construction as a result of the blower door mandate in the upcoming code change.  There is much confusion about these two requirements. You can register for the event in advance athttp://tallyba.com/tba-events.

If you need to take the EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Refresher Class, it's being offered by AMRC in Tallahassee on March 30, 2015. The fee for the 4-hour class is $145 and the certification is valid for 5 years. It also includes 4 hours of Florida Contractor Continuing Education Units (CEUs), including the 1-hour Safety requirement. On-line registration and information can be found at  www.rrp-training.com.

Many thanks to TBA President Alan Weekley of Alan Weekley Homes for hosting the February Hard Hat Happy Hour at his model home off Buck Lake Drive. In photo, Alan  (right) is pictured with Jane Conn of ES Green & Company, who certified the home as Green through the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC).

TBA is trying to find the six BEST BOWLERS in the association for a Friday night, March 27, 2015 challenge event we have with the Mortgage Bankers Association of Tallahassee. You have to be an excellent bowler because TBA is in it to win it! If you think you can bowl us to victory, email Executive Officer Paul Thompson at.
